Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for nursing services across all clinical sites. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care, effective nursing operations, and compliance with regulatory standards. The Director of Nursing oversees nursing staff, supports workforce development, and leads quality improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery and patient outcomes. This role partners with clinical and operational leadership to strengthen workflows, optimize performance, and support access to care.

Nursing Leadership and Operations:
  • Provide leadership and oversight of nursing services across all clinical sites. 
  • Supervise nursing leadership, nurses, and clinical support staff. 
  • Ensure effective staffing models, scheduling, and operational coverage. 
  • Support daily clinic operations and ensure efficient patient flow. 

Clinical Quality and Patient Care:
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered nursing care. 
  • Monitor clinical practices to ensure adherence to standards and protocols. 
  • Serve as a clinical resource to support care teams and patient management. 
  • Provide direct patient care as needed to support operations. 

Quality Improvement and Performance Management:
  • Develop and lead nursing quality improvement and performance initiatives. 
  • Monitor clinical outcomes, audits, and performance metrics. 
  • Identify gaps in care delivery and implement improvement strategies. 
  • Collaborate with leadership on UDS, HEDIS, and value-based care initiatives. 

Staff Development and Education:
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention of nursing staff. 
  • Develop and oversee staff education, training, and competency programs. 
  • Foster a culture of mentorship, accountability, and continuous improvement. 

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, OSHA, CLIA, and regulatory standards. 
  • Maintain policies, procedures, and standards of practice for nursing services. 
  • Support accreditation, audits, and regulatory site visits (e.g., HRSA, Joint Commission, NCQA) 
  • Monitor and address clinical risks, incidents, and quality concerns. 

Collaboration and Organizational Leadership:
  • Partner with clinical, operational, and outreach leadership to improve care delivery. 
  • Support implementation of clinical programs and initiatives. 
  • Maintain effective communication with executive leadership regarding performance and challenges. 
  • Promote a collaborative, team-based approach to patient care.

Other Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee nurses and medical assistants.

Required Job Qualifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Public Health, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of healthcare leadership or management experience.
  • Proficiency in EHR systems (e.g., Epic, eClinicalWorks, NextGen).
  • Knowledge of UDS, HEDIS, and value-based care metrics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.

Preferred:
  • Experience in FQHC, community health, or ambulatory care setting.
  • Experience with quality improvement and performance management.
  • Experience with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Work Environment:
This role operates in both clinical and admirative settings across multiple sites.  The position requires flexibility and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Physical demands:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout clinical areas.
  • Frequent use of hands for clinical care and documentation.

Travel Required:
Travel between clinic sites is required to support nursing operations and leadership responsibilities.
