Job Summary:
The Health Informatics Specialist supports the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the organization’s electronic health record (EHR) system to enhance care delivery and operational effectiveness. This role partners with clinical and operational teams to improve workflows, strengthen data integrity, and support staff in effectively using technology to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. The specialist provides training, supports system enhancements, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives that advance organizational performance.

OCHIN Epic Training & Education:
- Develop and deliver role-based EHR training for clinical and non-clinical staff, including providers, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative teams.
- Facilitate onboarding and ongoing training to ensure staff confidence and proficiency in system use.
- Create and maintain training materials, job aids, and workflow guides.
- Provide individualized coaching and support to improve documentation quality and system utilization.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for EHR workflows and functionality.
Workflow Optimization & Development:
- Evaluate and improve clinical and operational workflows within the EHR to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and patient care outcomes.
- Partner with leadership to standardize documentation tools such as templates, order sets, and smart phrases.
- Support system updates, enhancements, and new functionality implementation.
- Ensure workflows align with organizational policies, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements.
Reporting & Data Analytics:
- Develop and maintain reports and dashboards to support clinical operations and leadership decision-making.
- Support regulatory reporting requirements, including HRSA, UDS, and quality measures.
- Analyze data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide actionable insights to support performance improvement and operational effectiveness.
- Assist departments in utilizing reporting tools to monitor and improve outcomes.
Quality Improvement & Compliance:
- Collaborate with quality teams to monitor clinical performance and documentation accuracy.
- Support initiatives that improve quality outcomes and regulatory compliance
- Promote accurate data capture to ensure reliable reporting and decision-making.
Collaboration & Support:
- Serve as a liaison between clinical teams, operations, IT, and external partners.
- Troubleshoot EHR-related issues and coordinate resolution with vendors as needed.
- Support organizational initiatives involving system optimization, reporting, and documentation improvement.
Other Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Required Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, information systems, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 3-5 years of experience supporting clinical systems or EHR platforms.
- Experience in delivery training.
- Ability to travel between sites.
Preferred education and experience:
- Experience developing reports and dashboards using Epic reporting tools (SlicerDicer, Reporting Workbench, Radar dashboards, or similar).
- EHR Support Analyst Certification is preferred.
- Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or community health center setting.
- Experience supporting UDS reporting and HRSA compliance requirements.
Work environment:
This role operates in both office and clinical environments and may include time spent supporting staff in community-based settings. The position requires frequent interaction with staff and use of technical equipment. The employee may interact with clinical staff, patients, and community partners and must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Physical demands:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Repetitive hand/finger motions (typing, mouse use, data entry).
- Ability to lift/carry light items (files, tablets, up to ~10-20 lbs.) occasionally.
Travel required:
- Travel between worksites and occasional extended hours may be required.
